Keeping “Open Tabs” in Google Chrome

I do a lot of work using Google Chrome and there are things that I use over and over like my email, Facebook, my blog sites, my work site etc. It is very handy to have the sites I use frequently on tabs in Google Chrome ready to use when I open it up. It is also very easy to set them up.

To add a new permanent tab to Google chrome.

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Go to a blank tab.
  3. Go to the in the upper right corner of the page and click on it. A dropdown menu will appear.
  4. Go to Settings near the bottom and open it.
  5. Under “On startup” go to “Open a specific page or set of pages”
  6. Click on the blue “set pages”
  7. Go to the Add a new page at the bottom of the list. Type the URL for the desired Item in the box provided. Example: for Facebook https://www.facebook.com.
  8. Click OK in the bottom right corner of the box.
  9. Close out of Chrome – wait a minute or two and then reopen chrome. The new tab should be there waiting for you to use it.

There is another way you can do this.

  1. Open a tab to a site you want to have set to open whenever you open Google Chrome.
  2. Open a blank tab.
  3. Go to the in the upper right corner of the page and click on it. A dropdown menu will appear.
  4. Go to Settings near the bottom and open it.
  5. Under “On startup” go to “Open a specific page or set of pages”
  6. Click on the blue “set pages”
  7. In the lower left of the box is a button “Use current pages”. Click on it.
  8. Click OK in the bottom right corner of the box.
  9. Close out of Chrome – wait a minute or two and then reopen chrome. The new tab should be there waiting for you to use it.

With this button you can set them up all at once by opening a tab to each site you want and then following the second set of steps above.

It is very handy when you use the same site frequently. When you open Google Chrome the sites you use the most are already there and you only have to click on them.
